How does the sand calculator work?
The sand calculator is a great way to calculate the amount of sand that needs to be delivered to a given location. Simply enter the address, the size of the project and the quantity of sand that you need. The calculator will spit out the corresponding cost and schedule. This is a handy tool for anyone who needs to know how much sand they need for a specific project.
Sand basics
Sand is a naturally occurring granular substance that is composed of finely separated rock and minerals, polished to a variety of degrees. Sand can be described as either finer gravel or coarser sand. In some cases, "sand", which can be described as a type of soil that has more than 85 percent of its mass made up of sand-sized pieces, is also used. Sand is a sustainable resource over the long term, but it is virtually non-renewable in the human timescale. Concrete is made up mainly of sand. Concrete sand, due to the high demand in concrete construction, is also highly sought-after.
The silica quartz (silicon oxide - SiO2) is the most prevalent constituent in both non-tropical coastal settings as well as inland continental settings. Calcium carbonate is the second most popular type. It is found mostly in coastal areas and on islands. This is usually created by shellfish and coral. The composition of pebbles can vary depending on their location and the conditions in which they formed.
Sand is sold in small packages of several pounds/kilograms for garden and domestic use. Bags of 40, 60, and 80 lbs for larger projects are available in bags of 25kg or 50kg in Europe. Concrete mixing, construction, and other uses. It comes in trucks and is sold per tonne.
Types and grades
Contrary to what many people believe, there is more than one type. It's determined by its size and intended purpose. Because different types of sands have different uses, it is critical to select the right size.
1. n-standard sand. Graded to pass an 850mm sieve.
2. n-standard sand. Graded between the 600mm and the 150mm sieves.
3. n-silica Sand, almost entirely composed of quartz-like grains (used in mortars and for testing hydraulic cement).
Type | Description |
20-30 Sand |

Graded Sand |
n-
standard sand. Graded between the 600μm and the 150μm sieves.

Standard sand should also be light grey or white in color. It should not contain silt. The grains should be angular and should not be irregular. But, it is possible to have small amounts of flaky or rounded particles. Some manufacturers may use other methods to indicate the grade or type of the sand, e.g. "river sand" (also known as "builder's and" ("sharp sand"), "grit sand", concrete sand"), "masonry Sand", "M-10 sand") (granite sand), and "play sand") are all finer and more costly than the others.
How dense is sand?
100 lb/ft^3 is the typical density. This corresponds to approximately 1600 kg/m^3. This number is used in the calculator to indicate that the sand is moderately damp.
What is the weight of a yard^3 sand?
A cubic yard weighs on average around 2700 lbs or 1.35 tons. A square yard of typical sand weighs around 900 pounds (410 kilograms) or less than half of a ton for a sandbox of 1-foot depth (30.48 cm). The sand's water content is moderate.
What is the weight of one cubic meter of sand?
A cubic meter of typically weighs 1,600kgs or 1.6 tons. A square meter of the typical sandbox, with a depth of 35 cm, weighs in at 560 kilograms or 0.56 tonnes. These numbers can be derived using the sand calculator.
What's the price of one tonne of sand?
A ton is usually 0.750 cubic yards (3/4 cu yd), which is 20 cubic feet. Sand is considered to be relatively damp because water can alter the density (e.g. It was raining or you left sand in the sun to evaporate water.
How much does a tonne of sand cost?
A typical tonne (or 0.625 m^3) of moderately damp sand fills approximately 0.625m^3. It can be either denser or less dense depending upon the water content and size of the sand particles.
Ton vs. tonnes, tons vs. tonnes
In calculating the weight, you should not mix the tonne (metric tons) with the ton. The first is the one that is used worldwide and is equal to 1000kg by the international body for standardization. The United States is the only country that uses the ton. It is 2000 pounds (2500 lbs). While the difference is not significant, it can quickly add to a large number as the amount increases.
How much does a yard of sand weigh?
Typically cubic yard weighs about 1.35 tons or 2700 pounds.
How do I know the weight of sand?
Weight can be tricky to know. You can measure the weight with a scale or you can estimate the size. A cubic meter of sand weighs 1600kgs, or 3200 pounds. So half cubic meter is weighs roughly 800kg.
