Different aquarium formulas

If you want to calculate the aquarium size manually, you can use the formulas for volume depending on tank shape:

Rectangular prism

To find the volume of a standard aquarium, calculate the volume of a rectangular prism (called also the volume of a box). Given that a rectangular prism has the same base and height as a standard aquarium, the total volume of the rectangular prism is equal to the total volume of the aquarium multiplied by the height of the rectangular prism.
rectangular = height * width * length

Cube

Aquariums come in many shapes and sizes, but a cube-shaped aquarium has the simplest volume equation - simply raise the edge length to the third power. So, a 10-cube aquarium would have 20 edges long, a 20-cube aquarium would have 40 edges long, and so on.
cube = length³

Cylinder and its fraction

To calculate the water volume of a cylindrical aquarium, use the formula for cylinder volume. This will give you the total water capacity, in cubic meters, of the aquarium.
cylinder = π * (diameter / 2)² * height
half_cylinder = π * (diameter / 2)² * height / 2
quarter_cylinder = π * radius² * height / 4
diameter = 2 * radius

Bow front and bow front corner aquarium

It can be a bit tricky to calculate the volume of an aquarium. You'll need to give the dimensions: height, width, length, and the corresponding width of the full aquarium (not including the front or back). Then, you can use the Pythagorean Theorem to calculate the final volume.
bowfront = height * width * length + 0.5 * r² * (α - sin(α)) * height
In order to calculate the central angle of a segment with a specific radius, you first need to calculate the radius of the circle. Then, use the following formula: α = 2π - 4β, where β is the angle expressed as tan(β) = 0.5 * length / (full_width - width).
corner bowfront = (0.5r² * (α - sin(α)) * height)/2

How can I use this tool as an aquarium gallon calculator?

To calculate how many gallons of water are in your tank, you first need to add up the number of gallons in all of the containers. Then, you divide that by the total number of gallons in the tank.
The bow front aquarium option is for people who have a fish tank that has a bow front style.
To enter the dimensions of our tank, you will need to type in four values. The first value will be the length, which is 35 in. The second value will be the full width - this is 18 in. The third value will be the width - this is 15 in. And the fourth and final value will be the height, which will be 20 in.
In order to calculate the volume of your tank, the aquarium calculator needs some basic information. For our example, we need to know the dimensions of your tank - in this case, the length and width. We also need to know the depth of your tank - in our case, it's 3.54 inches. Finally, we need to know the capacity of your tank - in our case, it's 51.55 gallons.
If you're interested in knowing the pricing for a certain unit, click on the unit name and select the one you're interested in - for example, our aquarium volume in liters. Then, under "Unit Details," you'll be able to see the price in liters.
Remember that the calculations we provide here are estimations - they aren't guaranteed to be precise. Additionally, the results obtained don't mean that you'll exactly fill up your tank with 51.55 gallons. We don't take into account things like the thickness of the glass or the volume of other objects in the tank, like sand, gravel, and filter. Plus, you don't necessarily fill up the container completely - you leave some room at the top so the fish can swim and breathe.

Does the shape of an aquarium impact its volume?

Just as shapes come in a variety of shapes and sizes, the volume of each one is calculated differently. For instance, the volume of a rectangular shape depends on the length, width, and height, while the volume of a cube depends only on the length. And finally, cylindrical objects require both diameter and length to estimate their volume.
