Overtime - formal definition
Most people of their working age know and understand over time. Working overtime can be a requirement in some professions. Some examples of overtime workers include IT professionals, construction workers, plant managers, and investment-related workers.
Let's look at the overtime formal definition. Overtime can be defined as any time an employee works outside of their regular work hours. The term over time can also be used to describe the extra work hours.

To ensure that employees are healthy, productive, and not just working during work hours, the regular working hours for each job position are set. It is well-known that the human organism has a limited capacity and can't sustain the same productivity level in the 8th, 10th, and 15th hours of work as it did at the start of the shift.

Many countries create labor laws that protect employees from having to work overtime. Many countries also have regulations regarding overtime compensation.
Exemptions from overtime payments
Employers are required by overtime laws to pay their workers at a higher rate than the wage they would earn for regular work hours. As stated above, the standard threshold for most countries (including the U.S.A) is 40 working hours per week. The limit can be any, but some laws may have higher thresholds. In these cases, the employer should compensate for each hour above the standard threshold.
The Fair Labor Standards Act in the U.S. states that specific jobs can be exempted from overtime pay requirements. These jobs are known as exemptions. Employers are not required overtime pay in these cases. The non-exempt employees are employees generally eligible for overtime pay.
Certain overtime laws do not exclude workers from overtime rules. Some overtime laws exempt specific industries from overtime regulations.
