Coronary artery disease

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is the most prevalent type of heart disease in America. Other names for CAD include coronary disease and ischemic cardiac disease. However, many people experience symptoms before they have a heart attack.
Plaque buildup in the walls and arteries is what causes coronary artery disease. These arteries supply blood to the heart and other parts of our bodies. Plaque, made from cholesterol or other substances, gradually narrows the arteries. This can limit blood flow, or even block it completely.
Common symptoms and complications of CAD are:
angina;
Chest pain and discomfort
Heart attack: Weakness, nausea, and angina; cold sweat and shortness of breathing.
Heart failure is characterized by fatigue, dizziness, weakness, shortness or lack of breath, swelling, and irregular heartbeats.
Here are the risk factors for CAD:
being overweight;
Physical Inactivity
unhealthy diet;
Smoking
Family history and CAD.
A doctor may use multiple tests to diagnose CAD if a patient has already been diagnosed with CAD or is at high risk. The exercise stress test is one of the tests for coronary artery disease. To assess the patient's condition, the doctor can use the Duke treadmill score calculator.

Calculator Duke treadmill score - A practical example

Let's look at a real example to demonstrate how the Duke treadmill score calculation works.
Susan, a patient, took the Duke treadmill test. The patient was doing the exercise for 8 min. did not feel any pain throughout the test. Her maximum net ST-segment deviation during or after exercise* is equal to 0.6 mm.
*except in lead aVR
This is how the Duke score will be calculated:
Duke score = exercise – 5 * ST-segment dev. – 4*(Pain Index)
Duke score = 8 min – 5 × 0.6 mm – 4 × 0
Duke score = 8 - 3
Duke score = 5
Interpretation - Susan is considered a low-risk patient.
